RPPC "George J. Schreiner"

I picked up this Real Photo Post Card to add to my 83rd Collection. This RPPC pictures Private George J. Schreiner, Company I, 329th Regiment. The RPPC was part of a larger collection of letters and paper items of George Schreiner. The collection was broken up by the seller and got bought by several other collectors. Only this RPPC ended up in my collection.



GEORGE JOHN SCHREINER was born on July 17, 1888, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the eldest son of John C. (1860-1956) and Carrie (Heiber) Schreiner (1862-1940). He had three brothers and five sisters. George Schreiner enlisted in the National Army (#2425184) on March 30, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, 29 years and 8 months old at that time.

After joining the military he was attached to the 158th Depot Brigade at Camp Sherman, Ohio untill April 22, 1918 and then attached to Co. I of the 329th Infantry, 83rd Division. Draftees and enlisted men were trained at the camp before leaving for duty overseas. He went to France with this unit on June 12, 1918. The 329th was designated as a depot division and ordered to the Le Mans area, they trained additional personnel for replacements to combat divisions at the front. Private George Schreiner transferred to Company M of the 104th Infantry Regiment (26th Division) and saw action in battles of St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. He stayed with the 104th for the remainder of his time in France and returned to the US with them on April 4, 1919. On April 24, 1919 he was honorably discharged.

George Schreiner past away on May 15, 1959, in his hometown at the age of 70, and was buried there.
